I babysit often for the grandchildren because there are situations that arise for which I am needed. My daughter teaches school; therefore, even though she has family leave, she needs to be at school for the children to have their best experience. My son-in-law sometimes stays home with sick children because his employer grants some paid leave. Their situation is rare.
Many families are not as lucky as ours. My children can take off work to care for their families. However, many people lose their money if they stay home with a sick child, or are sick themselves.
