Account of opposition to child labor laws in 1907 reveals business lobbyists have literally been saying the same thing for more than 100 years

You think the arguments against raising the minimum wage have gotten repetitive? Well it turns out that the pattern has actually been the same all the way back to 1907!

Just replace the words "child labor" with "secure scheduling" and you have a pretty good to what to expect to hear this year in response to the #ourtimecounts campaign. Or replace "child labor" with "minimum wage" and you have a pretty good guide on what to expect to read in the Voter's Pamphlet in opposition to the Raise Up Washington initiative.

And then just consider: the big business arguments are actually so tired and wrong-headed that they've been tediously predictable and vulnerable to satire for literally more than a century.
