Statement regarding Alaska Airlines contract worker trapped in cargo hold

Working Washington, which organizes for good jobs & safe working conditions for poverty-wage contract workers at Sea-Tac Airport, issues the following statement in response to the news yesterday that a Sea-Tac ramp worker was trapped in the cargo hold of an Alaska Airlines flight when it took off for LAX:

This never should have happened. There is absolutely no reason for an airline like Alaska or a contractor like Menzies to lose track of workers on the Sea-Tac runway. Workplace safety and airport security are serious concerns, and no explanation exists for why a plane should have ever taken off with a worker in the baggage hold. This never should have happened, period.
