Voters see through big dollar lobbying campaign and support workers, not giant apps.
Released today, polling data from NWP shows what we already knew: Seattle doesn’t stand for subminimum wages.
A poll of more than 600 Seattle voters shows only 18% support Seattle City Council President Nelson’s proposal to repeal gig workers’ minimum wage. 60% of voters polled said they oppose the proposal. By rushing through this corporate written legislation, the council is not listening to what their constituents clearly value – ensuring liveable wages for some of our most vulnerable workers in our city.
Cutting worker pay and allowing corporations to write our legislation is both wrong and unpopular. In fact, polls showed voters support a different solution: 64% of voters support capping the outrageous delivery fees app companies are using to retaliate against workers and fund their CEO millionaires.
Seattle is urging our city council to do the right thing and protect gig worker minimum wage.
