Protecting the results of this election

Today is Election Day. So if you haven’t voted yet, remember that ballots must be postmarked or delivered to a dropbox by 8pm TONIGHT.

In Washington state, we know from experience that vote-by-mail is a reliable and secure system — and we also know that it can take some time to count every ballot. This year, with so many states around the country voting by mail for the first time, we can’t expect to see final results on Election Night. This election won’t be decided until every vote has been counted, no matter how long that takes.

But President Trump has spent the last several months questioning the validity of mail-in voting, and has repeatedly refused to say he’ll accept the results if he loses.

Accepting the results of an election shouldn’t even be a question. That's why we’ve joined with hundreds of organizations across the country as part of a network called Protect the Results, which is organizing to ensure this election doesn’t end before each vote gets counted.

On Wednesday, November 4th, if the coalition sounds the alarm via email alert, people will be gathering at Occidental Park in downtown Seattle at 5pm. (And if you don’t live in Seattle, rallies are being planned all across the state — click here to find an action in your area.) Sign up below to get notified about this rapid-response action:

Similar actions are being coordinated in cities all across the country. There’s also a national organizing call on Wednesday at 5pm, led by our partners at the Center for Popular Democracy. They’ll be discussing the latest updates about what’s going on with the election and next steps for actions that might be needed to protect the integrity of the results. You can sign up to join that call here.

Together, we’ll be prepared and organized to ensure that every vote is counted.
