My name is Marina and I am a delivery driver for several apps: UberEats, DoorDash and Postmates. The best thing about working as a delivery driver is flexibility to do the work when my family schedule allows it.

As there is always room for improvement, one of the biggest improvements for us, drivers, would be an improved compensation system.

Delivery drivers are only paid for distance driven from pickup to drop off location, and very often there is a very long drive to the next pickup which is totally uncompensated for time and gas spent. An improved compensation system seems only fair, since the drivers are spending many hours a day online on the app while using their own resources.

While the company is making money off every delivery the drivers complete, if the drivers are not compensated fairly for the cost of those resources used, the drivers themselves end up losing money, instead of making it, and that's not what we all signed up for in the first place.

I appreciate the effort of the people behind those apps to try to improve the experience for all parties involved - for restaurants, for drivers and for the customers. I see them do so through frequent feedback surveys and rating systems.

Though I personally love the flexibility of the work schedule, all those hours are still hours away from my family, trying to provide for them, and if my time and effort are not compensated fairly, then I am away from them for nothing.
